Antje O'Toole decided to take dance classes at the age of four and has since been engaged with dance from theoretical and practical perspectives. She studied contemporary dance (MA first class honours, University of Limerick), education (MA first class honours, Goethe University Frankfurt) and has additional training in dance therapy (FITT, Frankfurt). Besides performing and teaching, she is currently working on a PhD project 'The Experience of Body-Mind Awareness in Contemporary Dance Practice'.
Antje sees movement as our first language, the one that we initially and instinctively speak, even if it becomes mixed and overlayed with codified behaviour. In and through movement we can reconnect with ourselves, our roots, in a connection to the world. Dance brings us back to the here and now – it is a creative and recreational activity of great benefit in our busy environment.
In her movement work, Antje has a specific interest in somatic practices, improvisation and work with and for people of all ages. Her wish is to spread and share her love for dancing with others.
