I’m guessing that you’ve heard about mindfulness, meditation and yoga. You’ve probably heard about all the benefits too. Perhaps you’ve felt curious to learn more, but have no idea where to get started. Good news is that I’m here to help you try it out for yourself in a way that’s going to be fun and friendly.
I used to think yoga was something for bendy ladies in Lycra or hippies chanting around a candle. Oh how wrong I was! As soon as I tried it, I immediately understood that this practice was going to be so beneficial. Since then it’s become a wonderful part of my life and something I’m passionate about sharing with others.
I also remember clearly how scary it was to walk into that first class! I had no idea what to expect. Even after the first class it was still intimidating to go back as everyone else seemed to know what they were doing (or so I thought), and all the terms seemed so alien. This memory is what drives me to find ways to make yoga more accessible and to create an environment where you can feel comfortable from your very first step of the journey.
So you might be still asking “why yoga?” That’s a great question. We all know that exercise is good for us, that’s a given. Indeed yoga is great for helping to alleviate aches and pains in the body. Yoga however is more than that. In our busy modern lives, we are usually under a lot of pressure from all directions and over-stimulated by all the incessant technology around us. This breeds stress and tension and sometimes that overwhelming feeling that we just can’t cope with the daily grind.
Yoga teaches us how to use our breath, our concentration to bring peace and quiet to a busy mind. We learn how to listen to our bodies better and discover how to reduce stress and allow our bodies to relax and restore better. As well as improving our physical health doing yoga is a really great ‘feel good activity.’ Yoga can help us feel more confident, more energy, more capable to enjoy life and the world around.

Each week we will explore a new topic and enjoy a gentle yoga feel-good-practice. We will learn about the physical ‘asana’ (poses), breathing, mindfulness, basic meditation and relaxation – all the key elements you’ll find in most modern yoga class. After this course, you’ll be confident to join any yoga class with an understanding about the basics. I will also explain different styles of yoga and with your feedback help you decide how you’d like to continue your own yoga journey.
